Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions providers and clinic staff ask most often.

Common questions from providers and clinic staff.

General

What is Lumirai Viewer?

Lumirai Viewer is an iPad app for watching clinic rooms and reviewing imaging. On the Home Screen the app is named Viewer. Inside the app you’ll see Lumirai Viewer.

It connects to your clinic’s Lumirai Link server. You do not sign into Medstrat Joints directly — Link provisions Joints after you log in. See Getting started.

Is Viewer available on iPhone or a computer?

This app is iPad only. There is a separate Viewer for desktop computers.

Does Viewer replace Joints or our PACS?

No. Viewer shows Joints images for the rooms and patients you select. Your clinic’s Joints and PACS remain the source of truth for imaging.

Signing in

Do I need a Joints password?

No. You sign in with your Lumirai Link email and password, or a one-time password. Joints is provisioned by Link. In Settings, Medstrat Joints is read-only. See Connecting and logging in.

Why didn’t Viewer ask me to log in today?

Viewer restores a saved Link session when it can. You may see Resume with your name, then the rooms. If the session expired, sign in again.

Rooms and studies

The sidebar says No Rooms Selected

This iPad is not watching any rooms yet. Open Settings → Rooms and turn on the rooms you need, or ask a clinic lead to set Room Scheduling. See Rooms.

How do I change which rooms this iPad watches?

Open Settings → Rooms, then use the toggles. Clinic leads can also use Settings → Rooms → Room Scheduling so the list changes automatically. See Settings.

How do I assign a patient to a room?

Open Search, find the patient, then choose Assign to that room. This updates the room for everyone watching it. See Patient search.

What’s the difference between a room and Open Studies?

A room is a shared clinic room in Link. Open Studies is an extra viewer on this iPad only (maximum two). Opening someone in Open Studies does not assign them to a room. See Open Studies.

Why can I only open two extra viewers?

Open Studies is limited to two tabs. Opening a third replaces the oldest. Rooms you selected in Settings are separate and are not limited to two.

Why does it say No Studies Selected?

The patient has studies, but none are checked. Open Studies and check the exams you want on screen. See Study list.

What does the two-person badge mean?

Link found other PACS records for a similar name and date of birth, or this room already includes another patient’s studies. Open Studies to review Multiple Matches.

What do green and yellow mean?

Green is the patient assigned to the room. Yellow is an included patient, or their selected studies.

Why don’t I see Lock Lightbox?

Lock appears only on rooms that have a Lightbox. Open Studies never shows it. If the room should have a Lightbox and you still don’t see the control, ask IT. See Lightbox lock.

My drawings disappeared

Drawings are an overlay on this iPad. They are not saved to PACS. Switching rooms or turning Draw off clears them. See Drawing and scroll dial.

The scroll dial isn’t there

The teal circle is an iPad control on the study viewer. It is not on Viewer desktop. If you don’t see it, look along the right side of the images — it may have been dragged aside.

History

History is empty

You’ll see No History until you open studies for an identified patient on this iPad. Check that filters aren’t hiding rows. See History.

Shared iPads

We share one iPad at the nurses’ station — what should we do?

  1. Close Open Studies when you finish a patient.
  2. Log out (Settings → Lumirai Link), or choose Clear saved login if that’s what you see.
  3. Don’t leave a patient’s images on screen when you step away.

See Privacy and shared iPads.

Viewer on iPad watches clinic rooms and reviews imaging through Lumirai Link. It sits alongside:

  • Viewer (desktop) — the same clinic workflow on a computer
  • Lightbox — the display in the exam room
  • Lumirai Link — the clinic server this iPad connects to
