Rooming a patient

Assign a patient to a room so Viewer and Lightbox know who is there and which studies to load.

Assign a patient to a room so Viewer and Lightbox know who is in that room and which studies to load.

Open Room Patient

  • On Rooms, choose Room Patient, or Assign on a room’s menu
  • On room detail, choose Assign from the actions menu

Enter any combination of:

  • Last name
  • First name
  • Patient ID
  • DOB, entered as YYYY-MM-DD

Choose Find Patient, or press Enter. You need enough to find the right person — Patient ID alone is often enough.

Results show PID, Name, and DOB. Click a row’s add control to fill the form. If exactly one patient matches, Link fills the form for you. If nothing matches, you will see No patients found. — try fewer fields or check spelling.

Assign

  1. Confirm Last name, First name, and Patient ID are filled in.
  2. Choose the room if it is not already selected.
  3. Optionally enter a Reason.
  4. Choose Assign to Room.

The room becomes occupied. Studies start loading for that Patient ID. Viewer and Lightbox update to the same patient.

Clear a room

When the visit is over:

  1. Open the room’s actions menu, from the list or from room detail.
  2. Choose Clear.

Clear removes the assigned patient and anyone you included. The room shows Vacant.

Refresh studies

If a new exam just landed in PACS and the room still looks stale:

  1. Open the room’s actions menu, or the refresh control on room detail.
  2. Choose Refresh.

Link asks PACS again for the assigned patient and any included patients.

Tips

  • Assigning someone new replaces the patient who was in the room.
  • Date of birth must be year-month-day, as in 2001-04-17.
  • Need studies from a second ID? See Multiple patients.
