Open Studies

Extra patient tabs that sit next to your watched rooms in the sidebar.

Open Studies are extra patient tabs — people you opened from Search or History who are not tied to a watched room. They live in the left sidebar under your rooms.

How they differ from rooms

The Open Studies heading appears only while at least one extra tab is open.

Switch between tabs

Click a card to bring that patient forward. Viewer keeps each tab’s images ready in the background, so switching is usually instant.

Close a tab

  • Hover a card and click X, or
  • With that tab selected, choose Close viewer on the viewer strip, or
  • Press ⌘ W / Ctrl W for Close Viewer

⌘ W / Ctrl W never closes a watched room. On Mac, close the window with ⌘ Shift W and quit with ⌘ Q.

If you already have four Open Studies tabs, opening another patient replaces the oldest extra tab. Opening a patient who is already in Open Studies brings that tab forward instead of adding a fifth.

What a card shows

Each card includes the patient name, how many studies are on screen, a calendar mark when a study is from today, and how recently studies were updated.

  • Drag the vertical divider to widen or narrow Rooms and Open Studies.
  • Use the sidebar toggle to hide or show the list.
  • Collapse on select — on the status bar or under Settings → Rooms — hides the sidebar when you pick a tab that has a patient, the same rule as rooms.

Tips

  • Use Open Studies for a walk-up review that should not change who is in an exam room.
  • Use Assign to from Search or History when the patient belongs in a room.
  • Treat everything on these cards as PHI. Close extra tabs when you finish.
