Opening studies

Joints Study List, patient search, and opening several studies at once.

You can open imaging studies from the Joints Study List or from Echo’s Patient Search. Both paths create an Open view so you can switch between patients without losing your place.

From the Joints Study List

This is the familiar Medstrat Joints worklist, shown inside Echo.

  1. Choose Study List in the sidebar (or More → Study List on a compact layout).⌘ 1 / Ctrl 1).
  2. Use Joints as you normally would — find the patient or study you need.
  3. Open the study. Echo catches the link and opens it as an Open view instead of a separate browser window.
  4. The study appears in the left sidebar and in the main viewer area.

Tip: If the worklist text feels too large or cramped, change the Study List zoom under Settings → Account → Medstrat Joints. Choose Bigger Text or Better Layout. This only affects the worklist, not study viewers.

Use Search when you know the patient and want Echo to look them up in PACS.

  1. Choose Search in the toolbar (or press ⌘ 2 / Ctrl 2).
  2. Enter any combination of: - Last name - First name - Patient ID - Date of birth (year-month-day; Echo helps format as you type)
  3. Choose Search. You need at least one field filled in.
  4. Click a patient in the results.
  5. In the studies table, select the studies you want, then choose Open selected.

You can also open a single study with the open control on that row.

Opening multiple studies at once

This is one of the most useful Search workflows:

  1. Search for the patient.
  2. Select several studies in the list (for example prior exams you want side by side in one viewer session).
  3. Choose Open selected.

Echo opens one Open view that includes those studies. You can add or remove studies later from the viewer’s Studies panel.

While a study is open:

  1. In the viewer toolbar, choose Studies (list icon).
  2. A studies panel docks under the images.
  3. Check or uncheck studies. Echo reloads the viewer after a short pause so your selection is applied.
  4. If nothing is selected, you’ll see No studies selected.

Free plan limit

On Echo Free, you can have one open view at a time. If you try to open another, Echo asks you to close the current view or see Pro plans.

Staff and Provider (Pro) can keep as many views open as you need. See Plans and accounts.

Tips

  • Closing the last open view returns you to the Study List.
  • When a view first opens from Joints, Echo may briefly show that it is identifying the patient before the Studies panel is ready.
  • Treat everything on screen as patient information (PHI). On a shared computer, close views and log out when you step away.
